AutoZone Pro – Proposed Header Redesign
Role
Manager, User Experience and Design
Scope
Concept Exploration
Platform
Web (B2B)
Challenge
The existing B2B website header had accumulated complexity over time — a multi-row layout that separated vehicle management, search, and navigation in ways that felt disconnected and visually heavy. For commercial customers, managing their vehicle was a frequent and essential action, yet the interaction was confusing and unintuitive. The header as a whole lacked the clarity and efficiency that B2B users needed to move quickly through the site.
Process
01
Team Collaboration
Led the design team through a series of collaborative concept sessions, challenging each designer — myself included — to reimagine the header and homepage without the constraints of the current system. The goal was to think expansively and push beyond day-to-day production boundaries.
02
Concept Design
Designed a consolidated header that brought vehicle management, search, and navigation into a more unified, scannable layout. Introduced a hover dropdown for vehicle management — surfacing Add New Vehicle, Change/Edit Current, and Manage All Vehicles as discrete, labeled actions — replacing a confusing single interaction with a clear, structured menu.
03
Comparative Framing
Presented the concept as a direct before/after to clearly articulate the rationale and demonstrate how the proposed changes addressed specific usability gaps in the current experience.
Outcome
While the concept was not selected for production, the exercise delivered value beyond the artifact itself. By creating space for the team to explore freely, the collaborative sessions encouraged creative thinking that carried back into their daily production work. The header concept demonstrated a clear, actionable path toward a more usable and visually cohesive B2B experience — and modeled how thoughtful UX rationale can be communicated through direct comparison.
